Our Purpose

At Lakeland our mission is: "Glorifying God by loving people, changing lives and making disciples of all nations."

We do this by focusing on four areas:

Truth:  Many in our day proclaim that there is no such thing as truth.  To say that you can know something for sure they tell us is the height of intellectual arrogance.  Yet they apparently do not listen to their own words because it is impossible to affirm a universal negative, it is a logical impossibility.Jesus Christ claimed that he was the truth.  He then went on further to say that if you know him as truth then you will be truly free to be the person God made you to be.   Let’s say it this way, “Know God, know truth!  No God, no truth!”  The very university that is in our city has as it original mission statement “to exalt beauty in God and to pursue truth in whatever avenue it may lead.”We invite you to come along with us as we pursue this truth that has changed everything about our lives.  You really can know the truth and find real lasting freedom to live life with an undying passion.  (John 8:31-36, John 14:6)

Worship: Worship is the only proper response to God’s truth displayed in Jesus Christ.  Once a person sees Christ for who he really is, real life changing worship will become a part of his/her everyday experience. Romans 12:1-2 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

At Lakeland we seek to engage God’s people in life transforming worship. Worship is the entire focus of our life. The thrill of knowing and being known by God is what fuels our worship and our desire to call as many as we can to join us in this everlasting worship of our Creator.  (I Peter 2:9-11)

Community:  The Church is a body of people who have been rescued from their sin by Christ’s death on the cross.  It is not a building, or an organization, but a community of people redeemed by Christ who live their lives together in community. Living in a fallen world that is marred by sin and death makes for a very complicated life filled with all sorts of questions and problems, but God did not leave us alone he made the Church to be that body of believers who would love each other and live together so that others could see the glory of our Creator. (Ephesians 3:14-21, Hebrews 3:12-13, 10:24-25) This community called the Church is not a perfect community yet but it will be one day when our Lord returns for us and completes that which he has begun, until that day we live together with each other in gracious, forgiving community that lives to encourage and strengthen all those who desire to live for Christ.

Mission: The goal of all of life is to live it for the glory of God.  When man turns from his sin and allows Christ to be his Lord and savior he is on the road toward greater and greater joy in this life and in the next. It is for this reason that we desire to share Christ with everyone on the planet. To have this great truth given to us and not share it with others would be the height of selfishness. (II Kings 7:9)We are under the command of Christ our Savior and he has sent us out into the world to reach every part of the globe with the message of his redemption.  It is his desire that every group of people from every language on the earth would have an opportunity to hear of his redemption from sin and find eternal life.  This is the reason that we partner with thousands of other like minded churches to use our resources to publish abroad the message of Christ through both word and deed. (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8, Acts 5:40-41).

Missions is the only proper response to God’s redeeming work in our life.  If you have been redeemed by Christ come join your life with ours so we can carry this great news to all peoples of the earth.
